Cow Herd

Lyman, the fourth generation Ramsay to continue the family’s agricultural legacy is capitalizing on more than a century of cattle and farming experience and applying 21ˢᵗ Century science and technology. Today, Ramsay Cattle Company’s registered and commercial Angus beef cattle operation is focused on phenotype, structural soundness and elite genotype with the goal of producing elite beef cattle with farm to fork value.

After a trip to Southwest Kansas in 2003 to visit Gardiner Angus Ranch, the RCC pursuit of excellence became an amalgam of discipline, databased selection and a focus on calving ease, early growth, moderate stature, marbling and muscle. By studying the phenotypic and genotypic data, accompanied by actual carcass results, the mantra of “you can have it all” became a reality.

Today, the original crossbred cowherd has been replaced with 100% GAR and GAR-Influenced genetics. Phenotypic data is turned in to the American Angus Association to continually improve the accuracy of the expected progeny differences (EPDs).

In 2014, RCC began genomically testing the commercial cowherd using Method Genetics. Method Genetics is the leading provider of genetic evaluation tools relevant to specific operations. By using Method Genetics technology, RCC has consistently made significant cowherd improvement. All RCC registered and commercial cattle are tested to this day.
